The Monday After Easter

Passion Week and Easter Weekend is considered to be one of most important weeks of ministry for pastors. But for some, what comes in the wake of a busy, high-pressure week of ministry is the feeling of being exhausted, discouraged, or even unmotivated. Some researchers have referred to this as the “letdown effect” and we can even see a biblical precedent for this in the story of Elijah in 1 Kings 19:1-18.

That being said, as important as the activities of Holy Week were for many pastors, it is the week following Easter weekend that is just as important - especially as it relates to the recovery of the pastor’s soul.

So here’s how you can pray for your pastor this week:

1. Pray for your pastor to experience deep rest and renewal (body, mind, and spirit) as they take sabbath this week

2. Pray that they would remain rooted and grounded in their identity in Christ - not in their performance of how they preached on Sunday or how many people showed up to service this past weekend

3. Pray for protection against all forms of “letdowns” - be it emotional, mental, physical, or spiritual

4. Pray that they would be filled with the Holy Spirit as they prepare for another week of ministry in the days ahead

Last but least, please take time to encourage your pastors/church leaders this week - not just for they did during Holy Week - but showing appreciation for their leadership and care as a whole.
